This is one of the first questions travelers ask when planning a trip to Jordan. The answer depends on your priorities, the time you can spare and how deeply you want to explore. Jordan is a relatively compact country — you can cross it from east to west in a few hours — but its sites are so rich that you could easily spend weeks here. Here is a guide by length of stay to help you build your itinerary.

5 to 6 days: the essential tour

A stay of 5 to 6 days lets you see the highlights of Jordan without rushing. It is the minimum recommended for seeing Petra in good conditions (allow at least two days there), Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. Amman can be covered in half a day at the start or the end. This format suits travelers who have a week off and want a complete overview of the country.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Amman, visiting the Citadel and the city centre
  • Day 2: Drive to Petra, arriving in the late afternoon
  • Day 3: Full visit of Petra (Siq, Treasury, Colonnaded Street)
  • Day 4: Morning in Petra (Ad-Deir Monastery), transfer to Wadi Rum
  • Day 5: 4x4 safari in Wadi Rum, night in a Bedouin camp
  • Day 6: Drive to the Dead Sea, a float in the water, return to Amman and departure

Our 6-day tour covers exactly these stages — accompanied by Khaldoun throughout.

7 days: the ideal balance

Seven days is often considered the ideal length for a first trip to Jordan. The extra time lets you add Jerash (the best-preserved Roman city in the Middle East), spend longer in Petra, or explore Wadi Dana, a magnificent and little-known nature reserve. The pace is calmer, the drives less pressured, and evenings can be spent savouring Jordanian food rather than hurrying on to the next stop.

  • Possible addition: Jerash and the Islamic castle of Ajloun (a full day)
  • Possible addition: Wadi Dana and its nature reserve
  • More time in Petra: allowing the climb to the Monastery without rushing
  • A free evening in Amman: the Weibdeh district and Rainbow Street

Our 7-day tour is designed to make the most of every day without ever rushing.

8 days and more: the complete discovery

With eight days or more, you can afford to explore Jordan in depth. That includes the desert castles of the Badia (Qasr Amra, Qasr al-Kharanah), Wadi Mujib — one of the most spectacular canyons in the world — and Aqaba with its Red Sea reefs. It is also the ideal format for families with children, or for travelers who like to take their time, read the history of a site before visiting it and absorb the atmosphere of a place fully.

  • Desert castles of the Badia: Qasr Amra, Qasr al-Kharanah (with its unique historic frescoes)
  • Wadi Mujib: hiking through the gorges between the Dead Sea and the plateau
  • Aqaba: snorkelling and diving in the Red Sea
  • Madaba: the 6th-century mosaic map, the oldest map of the Middle East
  • Mount Nebo: where Moses is said to have looked out over the Promised Land

Our 8-day cultural odyssey is our most complete tour — ideal for curious travelers.

Our recommendation: think in terms of pace, not kilometres

The most common mistake is trying to see everything in too little time. Jordan is a country you have to earn: its sites make far more sense when you do not skim over them. If you are hesitating between 7 and 8 days, always choose the longer option — you will never regret having had free time to get lost in a market, strike up a conversation with a Bedouin, or stay one more evening in the Wadi Rum desert.
